Our name
Arkenciel (pronounced are-con-see-el) is an Americanized spelling of the French word for “the rainbow”: L’arc-en-ciel. Replacing the c with a k also creates an allusion to the ark in the story of Noah, in which God commands a man to build a vessel to protect God’s creation from a flood that destroys life on Earth. Near the end of the story, in Genesis 9:13 NIV, the rainbow is identified as a covenant God establishes with man: “I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.”
Our logo
The lettering of the Arkenciel and Ark logo derive from traditional silver hallmarks utilized by the city of London in the 18th century. Silver produced in London in the year 1796 was stamped with the capital A incorporated in our logotype. The subsequent lowercase letters a-u were used by London from 1776-1795, respectively, to indicate in what year a silver item was made.
Like the makers of the 18th century who stamped only the goods they were willing to stand behind, we back the quality of our production processes and pieces. Every Arkenciel piece indicates the purity of material used and includes our ARK stamp.
